Design Process
My design process is all about asking the right questions at the right time.
What do I know now?
What do I need to know to make this design or project successful?
What did I learn during my process to help inform my design?
There is no “one process fits all” approach when it comes to projects. As designers, we receive projects at many different stages so it’s up to us to guide our team through the most appropriate exercises.
-
You need to ensure that you are solving the correct need, for the correct user, at the correct time.
-
This part of the process takes everything you have learned about your problem statement and allows you to begin drilling down the scope of the project. It helps you better understand the next best actions to take.
-
After you have gone through the scoping process and identified your next best actions, it’s time to get to work. Whether you are entering into a research phase or moving straight to sketching, you begin to progress in your project.
-
Throughout the design process, it’s imperative to gather feedback from internal stakeholders and/or direct users. You should take the time to comb through that feedback and find high-level themes. Once those themes have been identified, it’s time to discuss with your product leads if the changes needed are in scope for the project.
-
You should always try to keep up with how the project solution is performing. Quantitative metrics and user flows are vital to track within your application to see if the feature is working as intended. If you are unable to get a good picture in the data, you may want to consider some generative testing around how users are actually using the feature.
